About the Houston Area Urban League (HAUL)
The Houston Area Urban League, established in June 1968, is a nonprofit 501(c)3 agency that has been tirelessly advocating for and providing essential social services to disadvantaged individuals across Greater Houston. Affiliated with both the United Way and the National Urban League, HAUL is dedicated to helping people of all races, genders, age groups, and abilities, particularly those residing in economically disadvantaged areas.
HAUL’s Impactful Programs
HAUL operates six key programs that target residents in economically disadvantaged regions within the Greater Houston area:
- Education and Youth Development: Empowering young people through education, mentorship, and skill-building initiatives to help them achieve their full potential.
- Workforce and Economic Development: Providing job placement services, career counseling, and financial literacy programs to help individuals secure meaningful employment and achieve economic independence.
- Workforce Training: Offering specialized training programs that equip participants with the skills needed to thrive in today’s competitive job market.
- Housing: Assisting individuals and families with housing needs, including securing affordable housing, foreclosure prevention, and homeowner education.
- Social Justice: Advocating for equal rights and opportunities for all, while addressing systemic inequalities and injustices in society.
- Health and Wellness Initiatives: Promoting health equity by providing access to essential healthcare services, wellness programs, and preventive care for underserved communities.
Our Commitment to the Community
