At L.K. Jordan & Associates, giving back to the communities where we live and work has always been an important part of who we are. Through our Jeans for a Means program, our employees have the opportunity to turn something as simple as wearing jeans to work into meaningful support for organizations making a difference across Texas.
We are proud to share that our most recent Jeans for a Means donation was made to the Houston Area Women’s Center (HAWC), an organization that has spent nearly five decades providing safety, support, and hope to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and sex trafficking throughout the Houston community.
Nearly 50 Years of Supporting Houston Survivors
The Houston Area Women’s Center traces its roots back to 1977, when a small group of volunteers began answering calls from women in Houston who were trying to escape abuse. With only a few borrowed phones and eight shelter beds, those volunteers laid the foundation for what would become one of the region’s most important resources for survivors of violence.
Over the decades, HAWC has grown from a grassroots volunteer organization into a comprehensive nonprofit serving thousands of women, children, families, and other survivors each year. Its mission is to end domestic and sexual violence while helping people build safe and healthy lives through advocacy, counseling, education, shelter, and support services.
HAWC’s services have expanded significantly since its early days. Today, survivors can access resources including 24/7 crisis intervention, emergency and supportive housing, counseling, legal advocacy, hospital accompaniment, children’s services, workforce readiness programs, and violence-prevention education. Services are designed to help survivors not only find immediate safety but also heal, regain independence, and build stable lives free from violence.
In 2025, HAWC reached another major milestone with the opening of One Safe Place Houston, a 5.5-acre flagship campus that brings residential and non-residential services together in one secure location. The campus includes 135 supportive housing apartments and was created to expand access to housing and reduce barriers for survivors seeking safety and long-term stability.
The impact is significant. In 2025 alone, HAWC answered 35,446 hotline calls, safely housed 913 women, children, and families, and provided counseling and advocacy to nearly 2,700 women, men, and children.
Jeans for a Means: More Than $105,000 Donated Since 2013
L.K. Jordan’s Jeans for a Means program began in 2013 as a way to make charitable giving part of our everyday company culture. Participating employees make regular contributions in exchange for the opportunity to wear jeans to work, with those contributions pooled together and donated to nonprofit organizations serving our local communities.
What started as a simple employee initiative has grown into something we are incredibly proud of.
Since 2013, Jeans for a Means has donated more than $105,000 to charitable organizations and causes.
Each donation represents the collective generosity of our employees and our commitment to supporting organizations doing meaningful work in the communities L.K. Jordan serves.
Our recent donation to the Houston Area Women’s Center continues that tradition by supporting an organization that provides critical resources to people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
