Jeans for Means Donation – Houston Area Women’s Center

Jeans for Means is an incredible employee-funded give back program that was started in 2013. Since its inception, L.K. Jordan & Associates have donated over $53,000 to 13 organizations that directly impact our local communities in Corpus Christi, San Antonio, Houston and Austin, Texas.

This time, it was the Houston branch location’s turn to choose which local non-profit would receive the donation gathered from the previous six (6) months. Being a women-owned and operated business, naturally it seemed like we should give back to organizations that help women and there are few that are more important that the Houston Area Women’s Center (HAWC). Since 1977, HAWC has worked relentlessly to help survivors affected by domestic and sexual violence build lives free from the effects of violence.

They believe that all individuals should have equal access to political, legal, economic, and social rights. HAWC strives to create a community (especially for women) that embraces diversity, recognizes oppression, promotes empowerment and supports the right of all individuals to self-determination. All of these reasons, and so much more, are why the Houston Area Women’s Center is the recipient of our latest Jeans for means donation of $5,500!

Here is Sarah Patel, their Corporation and Foundation Relations Manager, explaining the various services they provide for women (and men) that need help. They provide counseling – both on-site and through their hotline which is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, education, shelter and clothing, support services, and advocacy. The work that the Houston Area Women’s Center does every second is extremely important and we are so thankful that we have employees here willing to donate and give back to such incredible organizations such as this one. We can’t wait to see who we are able to help next time!
